Hat Trick For Literacy
The Victoria Royals’ Hat Trick for Literacy is an initiative that was started by the Victoria Salmon Kings in 2005 and has grown each and every year since. The Royals are proud to continue the tradition by encouraging elementary school students in the Greater Victoria School District 61 to get hooked on reading!
Royals’ players will make scheduled visits to participating schools within the school district, where they will promote the benefits of literacy skills to students. By participating in the Hat Trick for Literacy program, students are encouraged to read three books and submit three book reports in exchange for a ticket to a Royals’ home game. Players will also suit up in floor hockey games against the students of participating schools to show that learning and athletics can go hand-in-hand.
The Victoria Royals’ Hat Trick for Literacy provides a chance for our players to give back to the community that supports them by promoting literacy skills to children of all ages. It also provides a unique opportunity for schools in the Great Victoria School District to compete against one another, with the ultimate winners being the students themselves.
If you would like more information on the program and how you can participate, please contact Corey St. Laurent, Manager of Communications and Hockey Operations Coordinator at (250) 220-2613.
